Around 40 were killed and 133 were injured when two trains crashed on Friday August 11, 2017 at around 2:15 p.m in Alexandria; one of which was coming from Cairo hit the back of another nonmoving one from Port Said.
Hisham Arafat, Minister of Transport, said that “human error” was the reason behind the crash without giving further details. However, according to what other people say, it might have been due to damaged traffic lights for trains on the same line.
Moemen Youssef, passenger on one of the trains told Reuters,”The train I was riding was going very quickly, I found myself on the floor. When we came out, we found four train cars crushed and a lot of people on the ground.”
A member of the Parliament said, that it’s been agreed upon with Arafat to lay off the head of the railways.
The victims were transferred to the different hospitals to Alexandria with the help of the area residents and about 75 ambulances from different parts around the area.
Hoping and praying accidents like this never happen again; our deepest and sincerest condolences go to the families of those who were killed in such tragic accident, and our hearts and minds are with those who got injured wishing them quick recovery.
