We can all agree that as children we wanted to be just like our parents; that included fasting in Ramadan. Most parents went easy on their kids and didn’t make them fast an entire day at once. But when we finally got to the point where we felt like we were ready to fast, it wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be.
Ramadan is a time to reflect on your past; childhood seems like an easy lighthearted place to start.

1- Waking up for Sohur

We had our parents who would have to drag us out of bed. Now, we have to do the dragging ourselves.

2- Preparing

As a kid we used to think “The more you eat at sohur, the longer you’ll hold up”. I think it took everyone a while to figure out that no matter how much you eat, you will eventually starve.

3- Cheating

Sadly, it’s only acceptable as a kid.

4-Commercials

Seeing a food commercial used to be so heartbreaking. It only hurts a little now.

5- The Heat

Just the thought of being anywhere that didn’t have AC was cruel; walking on the streets would often make us pant. Adults, on the other hand, don’t really have much of a choice.

Work, work, work!

6- Last hour before Iftar

If you remember anything about being a child, you would know that their hour goes by ten times slower than the hour of an adult. If that’s not bad enough then I don’t know what is. These days time seems to fly past us way too fast.

7- Finally getting to eat and drink!

That wonderful, marvelous, amazing moment will always stay the same.
