Shopping is something you should enjoy doing. However, here in Egypt, it’s more of a war; where you get to -by accident- stumble over the things you want to buy, and get surrounded by other shoppers who want to snatch some items from your hand even if they don’t really need it. You have to be physically and emotionally strong to get through the Egyptian shopping experience!!

Read along to get ready for things you might face during shopping here:

1.In most shops, you would only find one size of an item.

You’ll be told ‘ya fandem howa el model da keda’. So, the shop decided that people who would purchase that item should all have the same size!!

2.The staff would be giving comments and you would find people crashing your fitting room.

You might find a staff member saying ‘ wehesh awe el print da ya fandem’, and you might find a random woman interrupting you while changing, and asking you if you’re done with the fitting room already!! 3adi gedan.

3.The customer is always wrong.

I would say never bother to argue with a staff member even if you had a sound reason, because you might simply end up being blamed and lose a chance of buying that item you wanted so bad.

4.Collections are one era late.

While the whole world will be talking about the 2015 new jeans cut, we will probably be still into those 2001 styles.

5.We have a copy of everything especially brands.

No wonder all Egyptian girls are wandering around with their luxurious bags.

6.Brands’ prices will be 100 times their real prices abroad.

Unless you go shopping with your limitless credit card or a multi-billionaire dad, DO NOT approach shops like MK, Boss, or Lacoste in Egypt.

7.El sale is like announcing TROY is back.

Hodoom everywhere!!! Unorganized and even crumbled. You hear women telling each other ‘matgeeby da bel mara’. Need I say more?

Unless you are used to shopping abroad, or you have a personal stylist who goes through this hassle for you, I would recommend you start understanding how to deal with those bizarre incidents!! Finally, a good company is a must; they help you through the crowd, share a good laugh when your haunted with those expensive prices and even fight with you over that one last piece on sale…Have a good day!
