We’ve made it clear in Identity that we’re not the biggest fans of Beauty pageants, especially Egyptian ones, and thanks to the ministry of tourism, they’re giving us more material to bash.

According to (Almogaz.com) — In an attempt to revive tourism, someone, out there, brilliantly decided to have a beauty pageant for veiled women. How will this revive tourism? We’re not sure!!!

The “Miss Arab Veil” pageant will have 30 women from all over the Middle East reign, and the pageant will be held in, you already probably guessed, Sharm El-Sheikh.

Also on Identity: The Miss Arab World contestants will make you cringe!

The only things you need to be able to participate is to be Arab, from the ages of 18 to 30, and wear modest clothing. That’s it. Nothing else is wanted. No education, talent, representation of the middle east and/or Muslim girls and values, nothing.

Let us not start with the fact that the pageant technically defeats the whole purpose of the veil to begin with.

That said, representatives from the event’s organizers decided to make a statement saying “Miss Arab Veil’s purpose is to show the haters how real Arab and veiled women really are.”

All we could think of when we read that was Ahmed Mekky’s “Teer enta” when he was Soma el 3ashe2 and showing the west that we can dance.

The pageant’s facebook page has pictures of the participants, and of course they’re all a bunch of selfies, and not professional pictures in anyway.

We just have to say that we’re really confused by the whole thing, and don’t understand what’s the point of it. How is this going to revive anything? And that’s the best they could come up with after the whole #ThisisEgypt shenanigans? Come on guys, we could do better!
