Seventy years ago, in 1948, an Egyptian magazine called “El Mosawer” warned that this would happen and, well, it might be happening! According to Forbes, Cairo is the most polluted city in the world in 2018.

As stated by Forbes, a recent research by Eco Experts on global levels of pollution for air, light and noise, ranks Cairo the most toxic city in the world, followed by Delhi, Beijing, Moscow, Istanbul, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, and Paris.

The reports only mentioned that Cairo is indeed the most polluted city, but they did not talk about Egypt being the most polluted country.

Moreover, according to another research done by the World Health Organisation, when light and noise pollutions aren’t considered as determining factors if a city is toxic or not, and only take into consideration air pollution, Egypt won’t be of top of the list (still in the top ten though).

Furthermore, researchers stressed that when it comes to air pollution specifically, the causes for this are Cairo’s dry and hot weather and, more importantly, the car exhaust contribution to air pollution.

With that being said, as a response, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment has released a statement, on Sunday, September the 2nd, denying all what has been reported by Forbes; since according to the Ministry, they are the only offcial legal entity to report such news about the enviromental quality, and anything else is not considered credible.
