Many of us have insecurities towards our body image. Unless you do nothing but focus on shaping up, very few of us look at themselves satisfyingly thinking “Wow, I look perfect”, like that really ever happens. And just like it’s considered socially rude to point out to someone that they’re overweight, being called underweight is considerably rude as well!
Gaining weight is harder than losing it!
YES! Unlike losing weight, trying to gain a few kilos to reach a your recommended weight can be a lengthy process. Bulking up on a couple of kilos in a week, for example, is considered “unhealthy” weight that you will eventually lose quickly. A maximum of a kilo within 2 weeks is the only way one can retain the weight added to look and feel healthier.
Skinny, too, creates insecurities
Unless you want to be that skinny – which is usually associated with some sort of disorder such as Anorexia Nervosa – no one likes to hear “oh, you’re just so skinny”. It’s not flattering at all; it only means that you don’t look your best. Think twice before saying that to someone because they might be trying so hard not hear those words again.
Shopping for clothes is sometimes a nightmare
You walk into a shop and you just love everything that you see, but you start looking for your size and it literally DOES NOT EXIST! Everything does not fit. So unless you won’t mind shopping in the kids department – the infamous joke every skinny person has probably heard – or giving up to looking like you’re wearing your older siblings’ hand-me-downs, you will rarely ever find something that fits.
Are you sick? But you seem tired…
One more very common question a skinny person often hears. No, I’m not sick, and yes I’m tired! Due to the minimal amount of energy retained in the body, fatigue is the most persistent feeling an underweight person must live with. They’re almost always too tired to do anything and are repeatedly being asked about it.
Jokes aside, anyone who isn’t within their average weight is struggling to get there. They’re already aware that they don’t look their best, and subsequently, don’t feel great about it. Don’t make it any harder on them.
