Many women gain weight during pregnancy but not all women turn their life around after such an experience. Fayrouz however did that. Out of desperation to lose the excess weight she managed to find her passion and is now a nutritionist who is capturing the attention of Instagramers and those interested in a healthy lifestyle. She is the author behind ByFayrouz.com and a brand ambassador for Lipton Clear Green. We sat with her for a quick interview and asked her to share some of her delicious yet healthy recipes…

TELL US ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AND HOW IT ALL STARTED…
It all started after I gained 30 kg during my first pregnancy. I found myself stuck with all the extra weight so I started being more aware of my health. Instead of going to a dietician I decided to become one myself because after reading many books I found that I have a passion for nutrition and health. My dad believed in me and my husband supported me so nothing was going to stop me from reaching out to my passion. I took the decision to study food science and nutrition and take it as my career. I started on a small scale sharing a lot of tips and recipes on my personal Instagram and Facebook accounts. Everyone started calling me ā€œthe nutrition girlā€ then it was time to launch my blog with the help of my friends at epic media and then we developed one big happy nutrition team to start making a lot of videos and then I signed with Lipton and the rest is history.

DO YOU OFFER PERSONALIZED NUTRITION PROGRAMS?
No, not at the moment. I am more focused on ā€œfooducatingā€ people and helping them undo a lifetime of bad habits on a large scale through my blog, social media accounts and by being a permanent guest every week on Liptonā€™s radio show on Radio Hits.

WHAT IS THE ONE MAIN ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE FOR THOSE SEEKING A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE?
Take it one day at a time, one change at a time. Donā€™t overwhelm yourself by sudden changes and deprivation of all your favourite foods. Be kind to yourself and set a realistic goal and commit to it by setting a time frame. So Instead of thinking ā€œone day I will run a marathonā€ think ā€œthis Friday morning I will run for 20 minutesā€ and so on until the day comes that you run a marathon.
DO YOU MAKE YOUR OWN RECIPES OR ARE THEY GENERAL ONES?
I am mostly interested in making recipes that work for us in Egypt. I sometimes will take a recipe and tweak it around or ā€œhealthifyā€ it. I play around in the kitchen a lot to get a final recipe out.

WHAT IS THE ONE MAJOR MISTAKE YOU THINK EGYPTIANS MAKE WHEN IT COMES TO NUTRITION?When we think of nutrition we automatically think of ā€œweight lossā€ We are always waiting and hoping for ā€œthe magic pillā€ but then again the entire world is guilty of this not just Egyptians. We are more interested in quick and unhealthy fad diets than taking our time to change our lifestyle for good. We only start to think of nutrition if we gain weight or if we are forced to eat healthy by our doctors due to chronic disease (diabetes, cholesterol…etc) I was guilty of this and thatā€™s why I am so passionate to help people change their life around by choice before they are forced to change it by the ā€œdoctorā€™s ordersā€
