Traveling used to be a cultural and touristic exploration, and a learning experience for those lucky enough to go. Now it has become more of a social media war on who has the most “inspiring” or “controversial” traveling experience. Most countries have been trying to get on the inspiring part of social media by promoting certain hashtags, or even paying social media celebrities from all over the world to visit so they can promote the country. Egypt, like the majority of countries got on board with the social media frenzy by promoting itself with #ThisIsEgypt.

Tourism has always been one of the main source of income in Egypt, but with the unfortunate recent political, and safety events, Egypt hasn’t been the #1 go to place for tourists and travelers. Still, one known social media guy, Chris, a man who likes adventure and is called @chrislovesadventure on Instagram (I mean, how creative is his name?) decided to visit Cairo, and he had his two cents to share.

Before anything, we don’t like this guy. Chris claims he’s a millionaire, one of the best educated people in the world (how humble?), and traveled to over 100+ cities in the world, which made him start his Instagram account and lead him to 120k+ followers on it.

Here’s what Chis had to say about Egypt:

Great pyramid of Giza ! Alright so my honest review of cairo…. Fuck cairo. I have only been to a handful of places in this world I don’t care for at all. Cairo is one of them. When I travel I mostly care about how I identify with the locals. This is my 103rd trip out of the country for pleasure so I feel like I am qualified to give this assessment. Go for sure, you need two days max to see everything worthwhile. That’s maximum. Egypt, in the day to day culture (this is not true of all locals but most), is a place without honor. Everyone will try and rip you off, people will demand tips because they let you walk by them or intentionally walk behind your picture, prices will randomly increase even off of set menu prices, waiters will lie about added gratuity, the hotels may be ranked at a 5 star but are all closer to two star chains (cough ritz cough), the food is not great especially when compared to other major middle eastern cities, oh once again the people are cunts… The abuse or children, animals and the land is all brutally in your face. Everywhere throughout the city is polluted and covered in trash, not to mention a few brawls in the street. Dear Cairo, you are a city without honor. #fuckcairo

Just when you thought it was over, he strikes again!

Yes, he literally compared himself to pharaohs and subtly compared genital sizes.

Chris’ attitude and the way he wrote his opinion would make any normal human being want to slap him. What kind of genuine traveler interested in culture stays in hotels and only visits main touristic spots?

As annoying as he is, he does make some very important valid points.

We’d be lying to ourselves if we claim that Egypt’s touristic spots, starting with the pyramids, are not extremely neglected by the government. The pyramids are now controlled by the residents of the area who abuse tourists and milk them for any money they can get. The place is also filed with children working, which is in fact child labor and is supposed to be illegal. The animal abuse is also undeniably existing, and let’s not mention the lack of cleanliness in the area. Most touristic places literally reek with the smell of death, or at least what we assume death smells like.

Egypt has struggled since the political upheaval that started five years ago, and it is most clearly seen in tourism which has suffered the most.

Now up to the controversy this post started. Someone on Facebook decided to translate the post and, yes you guessed it, Egyptians decided to take things into their own hands. They went in to tell him their two cents. Remember when Chis mentioned that Egyptians have bad attitudes? Yeah, we managed to prove him right.

Here are some of the comments he received from Egyptians:

And the best of them all, which has suspicions of harassment…

Hey Egyptians, this is not how we handle criticism! Believe it or not, not everyone will like your country, and you really don’t have to be nasty about it!
