Egypt is home to a range of different delicacies whether savoury or sweet. With a different dish for every occasion, here’s how crucial food is to our Egyptian society.

1. Food is Life

We all love the pleasure that food brings to our daily lives, but no one, and I mean no one, savours the lasting effects of food like Egyptians do. From the lowly doorman to the highest ranking CEO, they can turn into a food connoisseur faster than you can spell the word “Food”.

2. Family Orientated

Blood is thicker than water! Egyptians cherish their family values like no other, and food helps unite the whole family together whether it’s breakfast during Ramadan, or Friday lunch.

3. Countless Snacks

All day eaters, rejoice. Egypt is the perfect place for one hundred and one snacks in between meals. People usually never go more than three hours without eating, and snacks vary between a selection of fruits and sweets.

4. Utmost respect where food is involved

If their dish gets served first at a restaurant, an Egyptian will almost certainly either insist you join them, or offer you the whole plate while he/she waits for the next one. Not only do they love food, but the manner to which they go about it is admirable.

5. What’s Gluten-Free?

This is a country where even food is used as a utensil. Egyptians use bread as a utensil, especially when it comes to dishes such as beans (foul) and soup.

6. “Koshari”

An invention that can only be made by and exist for Egyptians. It says a lot about how much food plays an important role in the mother country of the world, a mixture of any and every carbohydrate you can possibly think of.

7. For Every Occasion

Ramadan is all about Khoshaf, juice and Samosa. For, Eid Al-Fitr, homemade Ka7ak is a must. Eid Al-Adha means you better believe there will be meat on the table, and lots of it.

From a national gem such as koshari to using bread as a utensil, Egyptians seem to lead the world when it comes to food infatuation. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’m going to go get myself some koshari.
