Salma Abu Deif, a 21 year old model who’s currently studying Mass Communication, has been out there for a couple of months now! It all started when a friend of hers called her for a random photo shoot for an online brand, and everything started getting serious ever since!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A CAREER IN MODELING?
I’ve always liked the idea of the whole modelling thing and everything that is related to fashion. I used to watch fashion shows for as long as I can remember; checking out models’ photos and learning from how they look and pose.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL MODELING WORK?
My first step professionally was with photo-boutique shooting for EGO and it was such a good decision and great shoot for my portfolio. And the last thing I did was with Fustany shooting for Maybelline. I believe this Maybelline shoot will add some much value to my portfolio as well, since this was their first campaign in Egypt.

HOW IS IT LIKE BEING A MODEL IN A COUNTRY LIKE EGYPT?
I think it’s great although Egyptians underestimate being a model as a career. It’s very sad how they underestimate any profession other than doctors or engineers.

ARE YOU EVER AFRAID OF HOW PEOPLE VIEW YOU, SEEING AS IT REQUIRES A CERTAIN OPENNESS THAT MIGHT NOT BE PRESENT IN THE MAJORITY OF THE EGYPTIAN SOCIETY?
No, I’m never afraid of how people see me. If you let what people think of you get to you, you will never reach your goals. I believe everyone should follow their dreams and do what they like to do. Plus here in Egypt most of the designers put in consideration our Egyptian traditions while working on their designs.

HAVE YOU CHOSEN MODELLING AS A FULL-TIME JOB OR IS IT JUST A PART-TIME THING?
It’s a part time job and Insha’ Allah I’m planning to work in media, since I always wanted to be a TV presenter.

TELL US SOMETHING OUR READERS WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU.
Hmmmm I’m kind of a nerd, I used to work as a Radio Presenter back when I was 16, and I LOVE FOOD!
