Body image is something we all struggle with on a daily basis. Do I look fat in this? Do these jeans make me look thinner? And obviously, the endless inner conflict of showing yourself in a swimsuit in public. Honestly, it’s just hard and tiring. One of the main reasons we feel too self conscious about our body image is because we grow up seeing celebrities looking absolutely flawless in magazines and in pictures. Thankfully, some celebrities are trying to raise awareness about Photoshop, and how reality is almost always altered.

1- Zendaya

Disney’s ‘Shake it Out’ singer and actress, Zendaya, posted a picture on her official instagram account once she realised how Modelist magazine had photoshopped her waist and legs! She wasn’t given any curves! She made it obvious that it was too ridiculous. What do you expect little girls to think when they see the image on the left of a singer they look up to?

2- Lordelorde

Lorde spoke about skin imperfections which we ALL happen to have. She tried to make it clear that the image on the top isn’t the ‘real’ her. It’s just a photoshopped picture that has magically erased her acne scars. I mean, wouldn’t it be far more appropriate if people just accepted the fact that it’s completely normal to have ‘imperfect’ skin? Isn’t it more fitting than being ashamed of things that are out of our hands?

3- Troian Bellisario plltroian

‘Pretty Little Liars’ star, Troian Bellissario, took it to instagram to make it clear that all the pictures of her co-stars and herself were photoshopped. She points out specifically to her thighs which have been immensely toned down. She writes that what’s important is to acknowledge that this is all Photoshop. Then, everyone can move on with their lives.

4- Kate Winsletscreen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-57-04

Kate Winslet made it public that the picture on the GQ cover was all photoshopped to make her look three times smaller. I mean, not only is it offensive to the whole world and to little girls, but it’s also offensive to the stars! It’s explicitly telling them that their bodies aren’t good enough.

5- Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga was not happy with her Glamour December 2013 cover, so she made sure it was clear that it was all photoshopped. She claimed that she barely looks anything like this in the morning. She claimed: “It is fair to write about the changes in your magazines. But what I want to see is the change on your covers… When the covers change, that’s when culture changes.”

And that’s only a few of the celebrities who’ve tackled Photoshop and body image. Others such as Demi Lovato, Keira Knightly, Amy Schumer, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Brad Pitt discussed it too, all helping make a firm statement that we all should be happy with the way we truly look.
