Awkward, uncomfortable, and provoking. That’s in a few words how bumping into your boyfriend’s exes feels like.
As soon as your eyes catch each other’s, there’s a mutual understanding that “Come hell or high water, you and I will never like each others.” Signed, sealed, and delivered!
You’re not supposed to like her, that’s something we should first establish, because logically it’s not a possible. Once upon a time, no matter how long ago, the guy you love had feelings for her. So the nagging creature aka jealousy won’t leave you in peace.
But that doesn’t give you a carte blanche to hate her; you should be better than that now that you’re part of the grown up world.

1. Set Yourself Free From Her Ghost
That’s a start. What’s in the past remains in the past. He turned the page, he moved on and belongs to you now; so don’t bring her back into his life by throwing her into his face every now and then.
2. Ignorance Will Set Your Mind At Ease
If it’s common for her to be in your outings (how sweet!), there is no need to have dramatic ta-ra, or a thunder of bells and whistles from your friends when she comes in. Just baffle the whole table by sending her a charming polite smile. (P.S. If she is trying to get to you, this tip will also work because it speaks: He is mine now.)
3. Don’t Declare War
It might be tempting to play on her nerves and make her feel jealous, especially if she is the annoying type. But acting like a lovey-dovey couple each time she is around will only make you look immature.
4. Don’t Give Him the “It’s Me or Her” Ultimatum
You are not at the short end of the stick, so don’t act like you are. The guy didn’t meant for all this to happen, he didn’t have a crystal ball in the past to know that he will break up with her, and fall for you. Don’t corner him between a rock and a hard place.
5. Girls Should Stick Together
Most probably you are someone else’s ex, do you appreciate his new girlfriend embarrassing you or giving you cold feet? You can imagine how humiliating this could be. Don’t do this to someone else.
