So, it’s almost the weekend again! That means you’ll finally have more time on your hands to go to the cinema and catch up on the new releases. Today’s film review is Fantastic Beasts.

Synopsis

As I’m sure you’re aware, the story is a spin-off of the Harry Potter franchise, where it jumps back in time to explore the 1926 New York era of the wizarding world. Supposedly, this world is threatened by the mystical acts of destruction and a group of what they called extremist No-Majs (The American term of Muggles). The story starts with Newt Scamander who arrives in the city as a part of a global study of fantastic beasts. Newt gets caught up in a conflict when some of the magical creatures in his care get released by accident, and the story starts from there.

The cast is just perfect

One of the greatest things about Fantastic Beasts is the choice of cast. We honestly believe that they outdid themselves! The movie featured a great deal of brilliant actors like Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller and Johnny Depp. It also had David Yates, who helmed four of the Harry Potter films, as its director. I don’t think we need to say any more. That cast alone is more than enough reason to go watch the movie NOW!

Fantastic Beasts

The movie makes the Harry Potter franchise look like kids stuff

While Harry Potter focused more on young children and teenagers, Fantastic Beasts comes to us with a more different approach than what we’re accustomed to. The plot goes beyond all what we know, from children messing around in their schools and practicing magic under supervision to adopting a more mature plot with a better story line. Did we also mention the spells have become so much more advanced? You’ll probably end up drooling while watching!

We can safely say that it’s currently the best fantasy or sci-fiction movie

Fantastic Beasts is one of those movies that make the viewer feel like its events are instantly real. It gives us a feeling like we know the places they’re viewing us, and as if the characters really exist in real life and not only came to our imagination when we watched the movie. That makes it a very satisfying fantasy for the viewer to watch because it has a certain level of sophistication, unlike for example Dr Strange which might reach greater heights in terms of its effects but falls back on the story line.

Finally, while we really loved the movie and totally encourage you to watch it, we must voice how a little disappointed we were at how for example Harry Potter and his films felt entirely original, but when it came to Fantastic Beasts, it sort of felt like it was more predictable and following in the paths of a Marvel origins movie. What can we say though? Nothing is ever entirely perfect, right? 😉
