2015…2015…2015. You probably grew up imagining that you’d hit 2015 riding a car with no wheels or having internet access anywhere..bla bla bla. Life may not have evolved the way we’ve imagined, yet technology seems to be eating us up. That leaves me with an intriguing question: what if the great people behind those brilliant inventions never came up their ideas? Apart from the Egyptian infamous soba3 el kofta that was alleged to treat AIDS, here are 5 things that would have gone completely wrong if the world technology geeks were too drunk to come up with all their inventions:
- No Mobile Phones
Without cellphones, we would probably be still consumed with ranet telephone el beit…We would have to walk around with our laptops; emails would have been much more appreciated and important. El cyber el 3al nasya hayksab dahab! Bearing that in mind, it would have left us re-considering that sexysoso_1000@yahoo email address!
- NO Facebook
Apart from the fact, that you would miss us, you wouldn’t be able to stalk your ex and check whether they’re happily engaged or miserable without you. The number of birthdays you will forget about is heartbreaking. You will not be able to buy that Louis Vuitton high copy madame Mona is selling on Facebook. On a brighter note, no more “amar ya habebte” and “ rabena yakhlek ya hamada” from mama w baba. I guess we will probably be spending our time checking the new clip arts on Power Point or any new colour pallets on Paint.
- NO Cars
Imagine how that bicycle your grandparents had bought you for your 5th birthday would seem valuable now! Apart from the fact that trips or even normal outings would have to be arranged days ahead, because a journey from madinet nasr to zamalek would take a couple of hours, and a trip to Sahel would take days of camping along the road….maybe that one is not too fun to even imagine!
- No Credit Cards
Apart from the peace of mind that comes with the lack of bills, you’d have to consider landing yourself a rich spouse to take over instead of your credit card. Forget about the moments the card comes out in a restaurant when you’re literally half way between paying and being arrested. One can imagine that the barter system might come to life again, and may be you’d be giving up on your beloved Rolex…yes, you will!
- No Air Conditioners
Deodorants all the way w 3ara2 w talzee2. I can see that without ACs, people would have those caps that have tiny fans over them as the new fashion spot on. However, we, Egyptians han3ra2 walahi w law f room with 10 air conditioners., so yes deodorants people!
6.No Fizzy Drinks
Honestly, we could give up on our phones, internet..but not fizzy drinks. It would be sad to imagine giving up on that fizzy drink that comes with all the fast food combos.We would all turn into fitness gurus and we will be all about that orange juice. One could yet lose those last couple of pounds; just make sure you get yourself a proper back up of amar el deen just in case!
To be very honest, there’s an endless list lesa: el microwave w el talaga w el iPad. This is just a glimpse at how lucky we are! Imagining life without these things makes me want to hug my cell phone and cherish my car…but leaves me with this endless question….Would life have become much simpler without them…That’s an open-ended one peeps!
