First-Half Faves: 4 On-Screen Couples of Ramadan’s Kickoff

Ramadan series may tackle various themes, but they undoubtedly showcase love, compassion, and togetherness. In the first half of Ramadan, shows have introduced several on-screen couples, some with somewhat good relationships—though not entirely healthy—and others with wholesome dynamics and relatively relatable stories. Here are four of these couples!

Marwan and Maddy – Embratoryet Meem:
Marwan and Maddy’s romance in “Embratoryet Meem” is a whirlwind of emotions, more like a rollercoaster ride, really. Their playful banter and chemistry make them a joy to watch on screen, but their toxic traits or red flags are also evident. It’s refreshing to see an Egyptian drama explore romance between university students with such dynamic.

Ahmed and Laila – Kamel El Adad +1:
“Kamel El Adad” introduced us to Ahmed and Laila, whom we loved from the first moment. Their love story is as sweet as it is challenging, managing seven to eight kids. Despite trust issues and miscommunications sometimes outweighing their support and faith in each other, they always find their way back. Ahmed and Laila’s bond is a testament to the power of love in overcoming obstacles and navigating challenges.

Hamdy and Yasmin – Ashghal Shaqa:
Hamdy and Yasmin’s story in “Ashghal Shaqa” might feel a little too real. Many relationships are tarnished by parents’ interference. Despite facing numerous challenges with their nannies and mothers/mothers-in-law, they overcome them and regain clarity in the stoppage time.

Hussein and Lama – Massar Egbary:
In “Massar Egbary,” Hussein and Lama portray a love that has weathered it all at such a young age—although they never explicitly state their ages. Their journey is filled with ups and downs, mainly caused by external factors, but their commitment to each other touches the heart.

5 Actors Who Deserve the Hype for Their Roles this Ramadan

It’s easy to get lost in the sea of roles, stories, and series during Ramadan but some actors stand out. Some of them have always been loved or are being rediscovered through their well-played characters. They don’t just play their parts; they make us believe in the characters they portray. They deserve all the attention and hype they get for their amazing performances. Here are five actors who truly rocked their roles and aren’t talked about enough!

Farah Youssef:
This series had many factors that caught people’s attention. And how real and natural Farah Youssef brought Amal to life was one of them! Though Farah doesn’t make many appearances, she sure left a lasting impact on the audience.

Mimi Gamal:
We’ve always loved Mimi Gamal, but something about her playing Fawzya in “Kamel El Adad +1” really sticks out with her captivating portrayal of the complex character with a firm and strict nature but a soft yet nosy personality. From expressing layers of emotion when talking about her late son, Omar, to dealing with Badra, Mimi has always known how to leave her mark.

Roshdy El Shamy:
Roshdy El Shamy’s magnetic performances have garnered him a special place as an actor. His approach to character portrayal and his dedication to embodying evil characters make him a standout. And this year, in Massar Egbary, Roshdy effortlessly made us all hate Magdy Hashish’s guts.

Mohamed Abdel Azem:
Mohamed Abdel Azem has solidified his place as a rising star in the entertainment industry since “Be 100 Wesh”, and he proved again that comedy isn’t all about jokes and never about overacting. “Ashghal Shaqa” made us see Mohamed Abdel Azem as a victim of his employee’s wrongdoings, and laugh every time about it or even feel bad for him.

Mohamed El Dessouky:
Mohamed El Dessouky’s talent has been evident in previous roles. With his very contradicting characters in “Selat Rahem” and “Ne3ma El Avocado,” he has established himself as a versatile actor capable of tackling a wide range of characters. He always knows how to play a great scene-stealing supporting role!

Who else do you think deserved more hype for their stellar acting?

Bedoon Sabeq Enzar: 4 Communication Issues We Noticed Between Marwan and Laila

In the premiere episode of Bedoon Sabeq Enzar, we were introduced to the rocky relationship between Marwan, portrayed by Asser Yassin, and Laila, played by Aicha Ben Ahmed ten years after their first meeting. As the couple found themselves with deep-seated communication issues during a couple’s therapy session, it became obvious that their once-pleasant marriage was on the brink of collapse. Here are 4 communication issues we noticed about Marwan and Laila:

Invalidating Feelings:
Through their interactions we couldn’t overlook the way Marwan invalidated Laila’s feelings. Laila’s cry for attention and feelings of neglect were dismissed by Marwan, making it seem like she was asking for too much.

Lack of Empathy:
When Laila explained that he hadn’t noticed her for a while and the only way to make things better was seeking therapy, he proceeded to not consider the couple’s counseling and belittled the idea to her as if it’s a trend to go to couple’s therapy. His inability to empathize with her perspective causes more misunderstandings, leaving their connection more fragile.

Selective Listening:
We noticed she explained the little details in their life that caused their marriage to crumble, such as not noticing any change in her like a new hairstyle, and he made a huge deal out of it by telling her that she can’t possibly be asking for a divorce because he did not notice her new hair color.

Denial of Problems:
The most alarming issue of all is Marwan’s denial of their problems. He confidently stated that their marriage was fine and that Laila was exaggerating and that all of this was complete nonsense. His refusal to acknowledge Laila’s concerns caused more damage and made Laila ask for a separation.

First-Half Highlights: 4 Happy Endings That Gripped Our Hearts

As we reach the halfway point of the Ramadan marathon, we bid farewell to some shows that captivated us over the past fifteen days. With relatable characters and emotional plots, they managed to conclude their journeys with happy endings that deeply touched our hearts. Here are four endings from the first half of Ramadan that left us anticipating a season renewal.

Ashgal Shaqa

It seems like Hamdy and Yasmine’s search for the perfect nanny isn’t over yet. Along their journey of juggling work and family life, this couple shared a message that no matter what challenges come their way, they can tackle them by supporting each other and believing in themselves, even with the crazy nanny experiences and ongoing mother-in-law struggles.

Kamel El Adad +1

We’re already feeling the absence of this family and their constant dramas. Since the first season of ‘Kamel El Adad,’ the cast has successfully developed a deep and joyful connection with their audience who engaged with every struggle and happy occasion in Ahmed & Laila’s family, ending this season with a high demand for a third season.

Massar Egbari

It appears our faith in ‘Welad Omar El Brens’ was justified. While many dramas opt for unexpected endings where evil wins over good, ‘Massar Egbari’ managed to conclude its story in a logical yet satisfying manner, and the emotional dialogue between the brothers Aly and Hussien surely added depth and joy to the conclusion.

Baba Geh

One of the most precious relationships explored in drama is undoubtedly the father-daughter bond. The cast of Baba Geh skillfully conveyed the complex emotions of this relationship throughout the show, taking us on a journey to discover and appreciate the unique and irreplaceable connection between a father and daughter.

5 Toxic Characters in Ramadan Series

As the second half of Ramadan begins, many eagerly anticipate the new Ramadan series. But let’s also reflect on the first-half shows that not only entertained but also shed light on societal issues in different forms and through various characters. Some represented toxicity in diverse ways. Here’s us exploring five such characters, unraveling their complexities and relatability!

Kareem – Kamel El Adad +1:
The one who had us all fooled. Kareem wasn’t only toxic, but he was also a manipulative con artist. He love-bombed Enjy, constantly lied to her, and planned a big trap for her and her best friend, Laila. He also guilt-tripped her and when she almost broke up with him, he proposed afterward. Talk about a toxic character!

Dorreya – Ashghal Shaqa:
Though Dorreya might not be your typical villain or evil person, she sure had some underlying toxic traits as a parent. She was controlling, almost ruined her son’s marriage, and treated Yasmin badly for no reason. We won’t take this on a deeper level or take it too seriously- but at the end of the day, this comedy show is also presenting real-life examples.

Nesma – A3la Nesbet Moshahda:
Nesma is the literal embodiment of a snake. Changes her skin now and then to fit in or manipulate her way into something or with someone. She’s a liar, villainous, and scarily selfish. She would do anything to get what she wanted and throw anyone under the bus for it- even her sister. Nesma was a scary but real example of how two-faced people can be!

Hanin – Massar Egbary:
Apart from being a jealous person, Hanin used Aly in the name of love but she never took any of his circumstances into consideration. She only knew how to lead him on to keep him around so she could climb the career ladder faster. She took credit for things she didn’t deserve, stole her partner’s intellectual effort, and even worse- she was okay with it!

Hend – Lahzet Ghadab:
We don’t know which is worse to be a bad liar or a silent threatened cheater- well, Hend was both. Her endless affairs and betrayal of her family were a huge part of what made her a toxic character.

Top 5 Ramadan Ads This Season

Ramadan is a month of spirituality, self-reflection and unity, and it’s also a high season for brilliant advertisements that stay with us long after the holy month wraps up. Among those many ads, five stood out for their creativity, emotional depth, and powerful storytelling.

Palm Hills:
This ad cleverly engaged many viewers into a world within a world, showcasing its facilities through the eyes of Asser Yassin on a journey to find Salma, the one who got away. The seamless presentation of landscapes, venues, and facilities painted Palm Hills as a safe haven offering everything one could desire.

Hyde Park:
This one drew us in with its portrayal of love blossoming in the middle of Hyde Park’s serene surroundings. Essam Omar and Rakeen Saad’s journey of love, featuring Amr Diab’s soulful singing of ‘Hekayatna Helwa’, displayed the perfect beginning for any love story.

Misr Italia Properties:
Misr Italia’s ad beautifully described the fusion of two cultures, seen through Ahmed Ezz’s role as an Egyptian son-in-law to an Italian father, where we saw them go on a journey through Misr Italia’s locations. Despite cultural clashes, the ad showcased Misr Italia’s properties as places where diversity thrives.

Vodafone:
Vodafone’s nostalgic tribute to 25 years of connections resonated deeply, tracing the evolution of communication technology alongside the voice of Amr Diab’s ‘El Kelma El Helwa’. It celebrated the deep impact of connectivity across generations.

Mountain View:
Mountain View’s ad, featuring football icon Mo Salah and his daughters, delivered a message of hope and happiness. Set against the backdrop of Mountain View, its facilities and scenic views as well as Essad Younis’s narration highlighted the importance of cherishing life’s simple joys.
