We’ve always had a lot of Egyptian fashion models, but we never really understood the difference between a regular good looking model, and a high-fashion model. Heba El Dessouky stepped in and changed that! Heba is one of the tallest models in town with an editorial look rather than a commercial one. Today we get to know a little bit more about this beauty.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
I studied commerce and majored in business administration. I’ve always been interested in fashion and modeling, I wasn’t sure though of starting out here in Egypt due to the fashion industry’s reputation of unprofessionalism but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I started working with couple of agencies and through my experience with them I’ve decided to become a freelance model so I get to be picky about the quality of my work and people I work with. I was then contacted by 107 models agency in NY and I signed up with them in 2012 and then I signed up with 3D model agency in SA, same agency representing Irina Shayk.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A CAREER IN MODELING?
I’m not a very talkative person so modeling for me is a way of expressing myself.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL SHOOT?
I honestly don’t remember; but it was a catalogue shoot I did with face to face agency.

HOW IS IT LIKE BEING A MODEL IN A COUNTRY LIKE EGYPT?
Well modeling is pretty difficult everywhere. It takes a lot of hard work and stamina.

ARE YOU EVER AFRAID OF HOW PEOPLE VIEW YOU, SEEING AS IT REQUIRES A CERTAIN OPENNESS THAT MIGHT NOT BE PRESENT IN THE MAJORITY OF THE EGYPTIAN SOCIETY?
There are different modes of expression that people interpret differently. You still don’t want to offend people around you, on the contrary you want them to connect and relate to your work in some way.

HAVE YOU CHOSEN MODELING AS A FULL-TIME JOB OR IS IT JUST A PART-TIME THING?
In my opinion it isn’t wise to do modeling full time, being a doll or a pretty face isn’t good enough for anyone. I think you’ve to work on different sides of yourself and explore your potential.
