If you found out there is a way to save energy and save our environment, would you do it? Lighting represents more than 25% of the total electricity consumption on the national level. This is where Nissan Motor Egypt plays its leading role in supporting the national energy conversation strategies. By being the first automotive company in Egypt to apply LED lighting technology for the entire plant, Nissan has become one of the biggest pioneers in saving energy in Egypt.

Egypt’s energy rationalization strategies is quickly expanding in the region as the government’s plan by 2020 is to transform the whole country into using an energy-efficient lighting system. Nissan is one of the first companies to pick up on the cause as they are replacing its traditional lighting system with LED lighting, with the collaboration of Philips. The main goal behind all Nissan efforts is to reduce electrical power consumption for the lighting system to mainly and solely benefit the environment and the economy.

Isao Sekiguchi, Chairman and Managing Director for Nissan Motor Egypt, said, “By using LED lighting in our plant in Egypt, we are reducing our lighting consumption by 76%. This number cannot be taken lightly. Imagine if all the streets and buildings of Cairo adopted this concept and started using LED lighting, wouldn’t this impact the electricity sector immensely?”

Nissan Motor’s commitment to save energy has surpassed expectations, as the company is working on inventing a new global department under the name of NESCO”Nissan Energy Saving department”, which is responsible especially for energy saving. This way, Nissan can work on reducing inefficient energy consumption globally.

He continued, “This project is not only for Nissan’s sake to save energy, it is also to encourage the public to start using energy-efficient systems and raise awareness on the importance of the matter.”

It is worth mentioning that Nissan is working on other projects concerning the environment, such as water recycling, and plans on setting an example for a better tomorrow, not only in Egypt, but across the globe.
