On the 19th of May in the year 2016, we find ourselves facing an issue that we all hoped was no longer a matter of discussion. For a while now, we have suffered as a nation from issues of national unity and religious differences, constantly preaching our oneness to the West and citing examples from the Jan 25th Revolution as proof.

Why do I find myself today writing an article about how insensitive and politically incorrect a Facebook page is to our country’s second largest religion? More importantly, why does this page carry the name of the “Official Page of the Suez Governorate”?

Obviously, the picture depicting Jesus Christ brought a lot of controversy. With many swearing at the page admins and others simply threatening them, there was a lot of heat about it and about how people perceived it.

This man threatened to sue them if they don’t take proper legal action towards the ones responsible for this.

Comment 2

This comment sheds a different light on the picture, choosing to see it in a more enlightening manner that makes you wonder how a prophet’s life would have been like in our day and time.

That being said though, if this is the actual official page of the Suez Governorate, then we have to wonder why they uploaded this picture to begin with? This is not a funny comical page that shares jokes or is created for the purpose of humor. This is supposed to be an official governmental page; what does government work have to do with such a photo?

More significantly, this isn’t the first time they have posted something that is irrelevant or offensive. Earlier in March, they shared this image comparing girls to a bunch of monkeys. This is definitely NOT okay!

Political correctness has reached a point abroad where people have sometimes overdone it. We haven’t even gotten near to the point where it’s practiced at all. It’s important for us to keep in mind what we are saying/posting/doing and how it affects people around us.
