A few years ago, a technological revolution has taken place. No, thatโ€™s not when Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and other social connecting sites took over our lives. Itโ€™s when the older generation- our parents and grandparents- joined these sites. Feeling weโ€™re being monitored all the time irritates us. Here are some reasons why our parents shouldnโ€™t be using social media:

WhatsAppย

Ever since our parents started using WhatsApp, our phonesโ€™ galleries have become crammed with photos of flowers, babies, landscapes, good morning andย good evening posts.
They get it wrong. WhatsApp was not created for sending weird posts every split of a second, norย creating plenty of groups where they share their childrenโ€™s photos withย their friends.

Facebook:

your-momThe older generation thinks Facebook is the place toย share details of their daily lives with everyone: checking in the places they go to, posting photos of every wedding, engagement party, outing and family dinner they attend.ย We always receive friend requests from the best friend of our motherโ€™s best friend. Chill out tantie; I donโ€™t know you and will never accept you as a friend on Facebook!!

What makes it worse is when “sa7bet bent 3amet mama” tags you along with umpteenth other people in a post that says: “kol 3am wa antom be 5ayr”. You end up getting thousands of notifications from people commenting on the photo. You cannot untag yourself because mama will tell you: “3eeb el 3amalto da. Enta a7ragt tant E3temad w msh hateb3tlak 7aga tany!!” Yes mama, that was exactly my point ๐Ÿ™‚

Whatโ€™s more irritating is your mum sending friend requests to your friends without you knowing it. Hearingย comments such as โ€œFostan 5otobet farida kan 7elw awyโ€ is how you find out this happened!

Our parents think that politics should be discussed on Facebook. They even drag their political discussions into quarrels and fights with relatives and friends.

Instagram:

Photo collages and grids that are bordered with flowers are what you see on your parentsโ€™ accounts on Instagram. Never getting that you cannot zoom inย on Instagram photos, your mum always ends up liking all the photos of theย friends you’re stalking.

Twitter:

You find your friends retweeting your fatherโ€™s posts. You realize: “Eh da, el 7agg bey2lesh!!”
