Over time, women have been subject to labelling and judging. They have become slaves to society’s beliefs and customs. All around the world, societies are creating movements to end sexism and call for gender equality. And yet no matter what women achieve in life, their relationship status seems to be more important than their achievements. Society’s categorization of women goes like this:

1-Single tumblr_ni31dib6Hx1rhu9vko1_250

If women are above a certain age and still not in a relationship, they are classified as spinsters and considered as bad luck. Single ladies in general are treated unjustly; society perceives being single as a crime. What society should do is stop forcing women into marriage. Being in a relationship is not easy; it requires maturity and needs both partners to be physically and psychologically prepared. Stop rushing single women into marriage; let them grow and enjoy life.

2- Married200_s

According to society, married women must have their priorities sorted by taking care of their spouses and by basically being a baby making machine. If a woman decides to delay having children and concentrate on having a career, she’s criticized for choosing to have a career first. Career goals are more about individual growth than financial gains. Yet society, doesn’t seem to understand that concept. So, enough with stereotyping married women as housewives only. Women are more than capable of having the best of both worlds, family and work.

3- Divorcedross

Society almost always blames women for being the main reason behind divorce. Divorced women are the center of gossip; they’re victims of trash talk and shaming. And what’s more, they’re actually pressured to remarry! Give divorced women a break to rediscover themselves and get back on track. They don’t necessarily need to remarry to be happy.

Every woman is unique. Not all single women are spinsters (and the word ‘spinster’, by the way, is very offensive) and not all married women are housewives. Wake up society! And stop labeling women according to their relationship status.
