Animal abuse has become a normal thing that we witness almost everyday, and it’s becoming more brutal not just from civilians but also the government.
In an attempt to “clean” the streets of Alexandria, the new governor ordered the shooting of all stray dogs. Pictures of policemen walking around with guns shooting dogs and leaving them in their own blood surfaced on social media, as well as videos of the policemen cussing at people who were trying to save the dogs.
While the killing of stray animals is a popular way to deal with the problem worldwide, the brutality of the way the dogs in Alexandria were killed leaves us more and more angry. The shooters didn’t even make sure that the dogs were dead, leaving many to suffer to their death. The scene was like from a horror movie, and we can only imagine the smell it left.
In any normal country, shooting dogs is illegal, and the shooter will end up in jail. Here, the government itself is doing that. People who are against the brutality are being laughed at, all while Egyptians are claiming to be a Muslim country.
This isn’t the only case of animal killings we’ve been witnessing. Gezira club has been poisoning its cats for years, even when the members made it clear that they’re against it and that they don’t mind the cats. Same went for Al-Ahly club, with even some of the club’s biggest players voicing their opinions against the animal killing.
A self-proclaimed religious country that’s trying to become a first world country is doing this to its animals, creatures that are too weak to defend themselves. Have some empathy, that’s all we ask!
