We, Egyptians, have some unwritten common “beliefs” that only make sense to us! They’re usually a mix between delusion and ignorance. We don’t really validate our facts or study the history books before we open our mouths to speak; no one ever argues the BS we strongly believe in either. Identity decided to burst the Egyptian bubble and debate the common misconceptions Egyptians have, that don’t really make any sense!

We’re white

1

Many Egyptians make fun of people of colour. Without getting into any political and racism debates, I’ll just give you a small news flash. WE AIN’T WHITE! Yes, some Egyptians are white, but most of us are either Nubian blacks, or Semitic whites, or a mix of both. Theoretically speaking, Egyptians aren’t really “white.”

You’re either Muslim or Christian

2

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of religious beliefs out there. There’s more than the Abrahamic religions, which are three by the way, not just two. People could also be atheists or agnostic.

All Jews are Zionists (Or all Jews are Israelis)

Judaism is a religion, just like Islam and Christianity. Israel is a country (debatable). Zionism is a political belief. While some Jews support Israel, others don’t! TARAAAA!

Hitler is cool

3

Just because you aren’t pro-Zionism, then you’d wish all Jews, and pretty much all the other minorities dead. Here’s a sad truth, Hitler killed Arabs and Muslims as well. No one really ever mentions them because they were a small minority in Europe. So yeah, you might want to go laser remove the Nazi symbol you have on your arm.

Money determines your worth

3

Most of the “A class” society in Egypt did, in fact, start with nothing and are what we call “new money.” While I’m against the use of the expression “nouveau rich,” it does reflect that money doesn’t make you who you are. Your father or grandfather might’ve had no money; does that make them worthless? Don’t forget your roots.

All homosexuals will hit on you

4

Unless everyone from the opposite gender hits on you, chances are homosexuals will too! Other than that, you’re good. Being gay doesn’t mean they’ll like everyone from their gender. They have types and standards; the majority of them never hit on someone who isn’t gay. Long story short, don’t flatter yourself!

Academic Education is important

5

Education is truly everything, yes, but it all depends on your definition of education. If you’re referring to school and university, then you might want to reconsider many things. Unless we’re talking about the first few years of school when we learn the basics, schools and universities don’t teach us everything we need to know in life. Many of the successful people who actually made a global difference are self-taught. So while education in schools and universities is important, it’s not really everything.

In fact, academic education dosn’t teach us political correctness, or any of the points mentioned here. A great reason to believe that it’s not the only source of information!
