Alexandria is Egypt’s second largest city, but Alexandrians still think of it as a cozy city.  They consider it their “comfort zone”.

Below are certain things which only Alexandrians will relate to:

  1. The Small Community:

Despite being a large city, EVERYONE knows EVERYONE over there. This definitely has its pros and cons, but you’re never alone (even when you want to be). Wherever you go, you always run into friends.

  1. Hangouts:

Unlike for Cairenes, Hangouts are very consistent for Alexandrians. There are limited number of cafes and restaurants but with many branches, all located within three areas only: Kafr Abdo, Fouad St. (L passage) and Mirage. It seems as if the owners are conspiring against Alexandrians…”Let’s ignore the rest of the city and launch in the same area!!”

  1. Montazah:

Montazah is the getaway during so many occasions; you couldn’t possibly celebrate the feast without going to Montazah. It’s also the most favourite pre-summer vacation spot where EVERY true Alexandrian camps during the month of June.

  1. Maamoura:

Most Alexandrians spent their childhood at Maamoura; riding bicycles, going to the beach and to “malahy el ma3moora” which is an unforgettable landmark.

  1. Kebda:

No one understands the significance of “kebda iskandarany” to Alexandrians. It’s more of a life style rather than anything else; if you don’t eat it, you’re just not one of us!!

  1. Friday Mornings:

Friday mornings mean having breakfast at “Mohamed Ahmed”, Alexandria’s most famous “fool w ta3meya” restaurant. This routine is usually followed by coffee from the famous Brazilian Coffee then roz b labn from “El-Shiekh Wafik”!! Ahhh..what a glorious day it is.

  1. El-Ahwa:

Guys and el-ahwa, almost every male in Alexandria is a regular at either “El-Lo2lo2a” or “Hambaka” cafes. Fridays, after prayer, and almost every night, el-ahwa is the the spot to be.

  1. Carrefour in Ramadan:

Ramadan for Alexandrians has been pretty much consistent through the years. Every morning the whole city meets at Carrefour before Iftar, and not particularly for shopping!!

We have our own, sometimes monotonous, routine, but it’s still fun to keep running into plenty of friends and acquaintances to hangout with.
