Karen Flenniken teaches poetry to Cissie Kwok's third-graders at View Ridge Elementary School in NE Seattle.
School might just be one of the most annoying things a person has to go through. Teachers can sometimes make this experience an absolute living hell. Second on the list are parents. Now imagine combining those two into one person; you don’t even want to know.
When your parent is a teacher, obviously, it can be irritating in many ways. But then again you also enjoy some competitive advantages especially if they work at your school or college. Let’s look at the bright side of this seemingly miserable scenario:

1- Money and Food

You can ask them for money or food any time you want, in case you forgot yours at home.

2- Studying

They don’t just help you out with the subject they’re teaching, but also help you devise a study plan and somehow find study material easily.

3- Teacher-Gossip

Your parent knows all the gossip and insider information about teachers. If you’re lucky, they’ll share everything with you. You’re always the first to know about secret future plans.

4- Dislikes

Chances are they hate the same teachers you hate. They understand that there are just some horrible teachers who would never give a good grade. Most of the time, they understand.

5- Student-Gossip

You probably also dislike the same students. They might know some bits and pieces about situations that happen during lessons or even outside school, if not all. They also enjoy hearing about stupid things other kids do nowadays.

6- Favorites and Favors

For some reason, there are teachers who treat you well just because of your parent. Whenever you need a favor from a teacher, your parent is the best one to convince them.

Even though your parents can be a pain, sometimes having one of them as a teacher can be very much in your advantage. Consider yourself lucky for having what others don’t. But altogether you should always appreciate your parents!
