The controversial article that was published a couple of days ago and which took social media platforms by storm, was a mistake! I am not going through that again as I previously clarified the matter, but the buzz and comments were intriguing, provoking as well as shocking! It made me decide to write what I really think of ‘our society’. Although I haven’t written anything for a long time, I wrote this because I was partially provoked and was urged by some of my dear friends to do so. For those who know me, you have heard these points time and time again. For those who don’t, you probably think the same!

The article was talking about ‘sluts’ a label every Egyptian seems to use freely on any girl he/she doesn’t like for any reason. Any girl wearing anything short or revealing is considered a ‘slut’ by the majority. Any girl who has male friends is considered the same. Any girl who wears heavy lipstick, any girl who is DIFFERRENT is considered a ‘slut in our society’. This is a FACT we live with day and night! Sick minded judgmental society who leaves you no room to breath. (Which was the whole point of the article to begin with)

I am much older than most of the people who shared commented liked or disliked the article, and would like to tell you this is a rooted problem. It has been there for ages, maybe not as much the physical harassments we have nowadays, but a lot of sick verbal comments. But the judgments were always there, I personally had my share of misunderstandings and false accusations! I have been fighting against this for a long time now! I have no clue how to solve it, but its getting worse by the minute!

The most disgusting were the comments from people ‘I know’ who really share this unfortunate point of view. The ones with the double standards who pretend to be open-minded and try as much as possible to alienate themselves from what is in their sick minds but will label you no matter what you do.

In any controversial subject what we see is vulgar, aggressive attack mode, which goes beyond limits. We have no education in discussing matters in a professional way, with or against. We are unable to talk as a nation. We are unable to express our opinions in a constructive manner. (It doesn’t need to go as far as death threats and verbal abuse to convey your point of view)

Some people comment just so no one says they didn’t comment, or they are afraid to be labeled as ‘agreeing’. They make a big row, they swear at you and are the most aggressive just for the attention without adding any value to the discussion.

Men and women, alike, in our society have turned women’s lives into living hell. Most men have those exact opinions about women and are happy to score at the end of the night. They honestly believe all women are there for their convenience. To sleep with them, entertain them, cook for them…etc. It’s all the same crap! Women are considered second-class citizens anywhere you go! The most appalling is those women who believe the same.

Relax, breathe and think about that. We here at Identity Magazine have always been and always will be addressing the issues and challenges women face in our society. We will be publishing a weekly article addressing each and every one of those issues in efforts to shed more light on what women have to deal with day in, day out in our society.
