These corset-like belts that they swear by and claim to have helped them lose inches off their waist to accentuate their hourglass shape figure. What exactly is waist training? Does it actually work? And should you try it out? We have all the answers for you!

What is waist training?

It’s basically wearing this latex waist trainer or a form of super tight corset to cinch in your waistline. The process of it takes time and patience. Obviously, when you’re actually wearing the waist trainer, just like spanx, it does pull you in an inch or two smaller.

What’s special about waist training is that after a period of time, your body actually gets trained to be pulled in at the waist even when you’re not wearing the trainer. This is, however, not permanent. If you stop wearing your waist trainer, your waist size will most likely go back to its normal. You don’t necessarily have to wear the trainer 24/7, but the more you do the faster you will see results and the longer they will last.

When do you start seeing results?

Obviously how soon you see results will depend on how consistent you are with wearing your waist trainer. if you only wear it for 2 hours a day, it can take months longer as opposed to someone who wears it for 8 hours a day. It’s important to also keep in mind that every person’s body type is different which will definitely affect how soon you see results. Someone with a bigger waist will probably see results sooner than someone with less fat on their stomach, waist area. So if you’re gonna give it a try, be patient and consistent, you are after all “training” your body so baby steps!

Should you do it? Is it dangerous?

Experts’ opinions are split between whether or not it works. However, they all agree that it is dangerous. You are basically squishing your lungs and ribs against their will *ouch*. It can cause breathing problems; some women have lost consciousness from wearing it for too long.

Yes, it might be a short-term solution if you’re trying to fit into a dress before a wedding, but it’s not a long-term weight loss solution. So if your aim is to achieve that permanent dream curvy body – eat healthy and do some squats. If, however, you just want a short-term solution and you’re willing to take the risk then go for it (but don’t say we didn’t warn you!)
