With every passing day, we become subjected to new pressures that life throws at us. And with our hectic schedules, we barely have the time to think about our true selves. What do we really love or hate, and what we really want to do. But it doesn’t always have to be like this, you have the right to understand who you really are and this is how you should go about it:

1- Travel Alone

Travelling, especially if you’re alone, is the best way to understand your real self. Because when you travel alone, you get away from all the surroundings that normally affect your decisions. When you leave your comfort zone, you get the chance to do whatever you want, no judgments or pressure.

2- Start a Diary

I know this might seem lame to some, but it’s a very efficient way to understand yourself. Because when you write your diary, it’s like you’re writing to yourself about yourself. In other words, it’s a way to let out everything you’re feeling without any judgments. It allows you to keep track of how you’ve been changing over time, and what really affects your mood and decisions.

3- Be Honest to Yourself

You can lie as much as you want about anything you don’t wish to admit, but never ever lie to yourself. If you feel it, if you know it, if you can sense it, then it’s true. In order to understand yourself more, you need to be honest with yourself about how you’re really feeling, and respect those feelings because they make up the real you.

4- Set Clear Values

Your values reflect the real you, the boundaries that no one can cross with you. They represent a base that you build yourself upon. No matter how important you think something is, never throw away your values in exchange.

5- Determine What Stops You

Imagine this: you’re slowly but surely climbing up the ladder of success, everything is going great, and then you just stop and get frustrated. What happened? What got into your way? What made you feel like you can’t make it? Determine the things that let you down, and stay away from them. Try to understand what holds you back and step away from it.

6- Ask People

Your family and your close friends are the people who know you even better than you know yourself. Ask them. Let them tell you what they think is your point of weakness, or what’s your typical reaction toward something. Let them tell you honestly what they think about you; they can make it way easier for you to understand it all.

7- Analyze Yourself

Even though this might seem like a tricky thing to do, but it’s not hard at all. Analyze your behaviour. Try to link the way you acted to what originated your reaction. Connect the dots in your personality, in other words, understand the background that developed such a reaction.

You deserve the chance to do what you really want, not what you are forced to do. Understand yourself more to determine the best way you can reach a clear vision and grow.
