It’s the weekend, and we all have a little more time on our hands! If you’re looking for a good show to binge watch, we strongly recommend Veronica Mars!

1- Veronica is pretty cool

Veronica and Mac

Veronica Mars, played by Kristen Bell, is a teenager/high school student/detective/awesome. The show starts with Veronica on a stakeout taking surveillance photos, because she works with her dad who is a private investigator. After the death of her best friend, Lilly Kane, Veronica was outcasted from the popular and affluent crowd of high school and has dedicated her life to cracking the toughest mystery cases in the town of Neptune, including the mystery of her best friend’s murder. When the show first came out, it was dubbed “the new Buffy” because it played a huge role in the female power TV uprising. Veronica is sassy with clever back talk and has amazing deduction skills. Moreover, Bell slips into the role so naturally as if she was the glass slipper and the role was Cinderella.

Director Rob Thomas has created a world that effortlessly combines romance, family, friendship and mystery. Veronica Mars can easily join the ranks of great TV mysteries such as Twin Peaks. The “teen noir” spin on the show gave it extra incentive as well. Each episode packs a mystery so twisted and interesting, which Veronica spends the entire 44 minutes trying to unfold. The mysteries of the show are what solidified Veronica Mars as a genius masterpiece. The investigations and the outcomes were logical and intellectually satisfying. It’s a fact that people like shows with mysteries and intrigue, and if it happens to include murder, then that’s even better.

3- Her unique relationship with her “daddy”

Veronica and her dad

Veronica’s relationship with her father was a bit complicated, but never in an “I hate you” kind of way. Her father Keith, played by Enrico Colantoni, is a protective and funny guy who would do anything for his daughter. They are each other’s solace. They’re father and daughter, business partners and best friends. Their dialogue is always snappy and he’s just as witty as she is, so their bantering is always fun. It’s a relationship that you grow attached to because they legitimately care and love each other. Their brains are wired the same way and have things in common, which what makes this father/daughter relationship different than any other.

4- Logan Echolls

The show is full of brilliant characters, but aside from Veronica’s father, no one keeps up with her bantering like Logan Echolls. He is the classic bad boy who turns out to be, well, not so bad. He gets into a lot of bum fights, thinks violence is always the answer and gets drunk a lot. But, underneath all of that, he has a heart of gold. Sensitivity combined with razor-sharp commentary and spot-on one-liners, easily makes Logan one of the best characters on the show.

5- Logan’s voice messages

Logan's voice messages

Logan had the most amazing cell phone voice messages! He always used a different quote that applied to how he was internally feeling at that point in the show. He liked to call them “inspirational messages” and delivered them in a slightly sarcastic tone. We’re always unaware of whether he’s pulling our leg, being a teen with an attitude or genuinely sharing an inspiring quote.

6- The Guest Stars

Veronica Mars had the best cameos. There’s Schmidt from New Girl. Blair from Gossip Girl. Sue from Glee. Quinn Fabray, also from Glee. Willow from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Pinkman from Breaking Bad. And many more!

Now go fill the Veronica Mars-shaped gap in your life and become a fellow marshmallow.
