It seems as though there are a lot of Italian restaurants popping up lately around Cairo, but not many of them are authentically Italian. Luckily, we’ve scoped out a newly opened Italian restaurant by the name of Tavolino. And it is sure to take you on a cuisine tour of the country.
The thing about Tavolino is that it brings a modern take on Italian dishes. The restaurant’s design emphasises that modernity with leather seating, geometric mirrors and white washed walls of brick complemented with romantic lighting. The word Tavolino itself means table, and this is probably in reference to the delicious spread of food you’ll have on it!
To start off, we tried the Calamari Fritti, a simple dish of fried squid rings marinated in flavourful citrus lemon and coupled with a garlic dip. The squid was cooked to perfection and the acidity of the lemon was a refreshing addition when the squid was dipped in the garlic. We then followed with Ossobuco Di Vitello, a veal shank braised in tomatoes. But the real star of this dish was the Saffron Risotto which we consumed down to the last spoonful. Finally, we ended our Italian tour by sampling a classic Italian dessert: Panna Cotta, a thick vanilla cream coupled with generous helpings of delicious berry salsa.
Well, what’re you waiting for? Head on down to Tavolino to try these dishes yourself!
