We’re tired of hearing the term “fashionista” over and over and over again. Sometimes, it has even become offensive because it’s been overly used and so wrongly done here in Egypt for several reasons.

If you googled the word fashionista, you’ll find it originally having two meanings: either a person who follows the fashion endlessly (which means that they should be acquainted with all the fashion trends on the runways, and that’s of course not the case here in Egypt where you end up looking at “fashionistas” carrying fake designer bags. The other definition for the word is “an haute couture designer”. On the other hand, being a “fashion blogger” means that it’s necessary to have a fashion blog and that’s where the name originates from.  It’s rarely the case to find a fashion blogger in Egypt who has a proper, updated, creative and consistent fashion blog.

Most of the Fashion bloggers in Egypt are obsessed with the idea of being popular. We’re tired of seeing the same people who have nothing new to offer over and over and over again. There are actually a very few exceptions.

Having an audience base is one thing and being influential is a totally different deal.. the only reason your audience might be following you is to watch and have a good laugh but they would never think of dressing or acting like you. You have to earn your influence on people. And in order to do that, you have to be respected, creative and passionate about what you’re doing. You have to learn, invest in yourself and evolve; it’s never enough to wear whatever comes to mind and shower the picture with Hashtags.

To be a proper fashion blogger or a fashionista you have to:

1- Have a proper fashion blog

Like stated above, it has to be a professional, consistent one with high quality pictures and creative updated content.

2- Take lots of courses and stay up-to-date with the fashion trends around you.

Just don’t stop evolving because most people follow you to know the latest trends and to get to see new creative/ WEARABLE outfits. That should be your main goal.

3- Be credible and honest

You have to be selective and only pick the stuff you actually like and that you’re convinced really fits the identity you’re promoting. If you wear or advertise everything you get paid for, where’s the credibility?

4- Love what you do

Because If you’re not passionate about the whole thing and only do it for the sake of being popular and having a buzz, you’re bound to fail sooner than later.

5- Have your own identity and vision

You shouldn’t copy other fashion bloggers. You have to offer something unique and you have to know exactly who your target audience is.

6-Most Importantly, you have to know that not all kinds of BUZZ and publicity are good.
