It’s that wonderful time of the year again where the family gets to celebrate the holy month together. The idea of one big happy family sitting around one table seems rather too good to be true. So what can be more amusing than pointing out the crazy members of a traditional Egyptian family while laughing at ourselves all at the same time?
Here are the typical ones:

1- El 3eyal

They’re loud. They cry. They are unsupervised and probably the most annoying since all they do is run around and destroy stuff.

2- The cousins

Those are the ones who chill together in a corner all by themselves pretending to be adults and ignore the rest of the family.

3- El Mafagi3

I’ll just leave you with this picture.

4- Tant we 3ammeto

“Mish hanefra7 bik/y?”, “Hatet5arag/y emta?”, “Haaa, ba2et/y fe sana kam?”, “Sayem/sayma wala zay kol sana?” are usually the first things you hear from them. But it doesn’t end there. They take every little piece of your past, present and future and judge you. And the worst part is, your mother is helping them.

5- The “Politicians”

Definitely the loudest in the house. They think they know everything and everything they say is right.

6- 5alo we 3ammo

*drinks tea* *laughs really loudly* And along with tant we 3ameto, they keep judging you.

7- El Meshayeshin

There is always at least one member who smokes cigarettes or shisha.

8- Teta we Geddo

If you think you’ve had enough to eat, just remember that Teta we Geddo will never agree.

9- The Teenagers

They’re the ones sitting with the cousins trying to fit in, but no matter how hard they try, they will be excluded. Then they give up and sit alone with their phone or laptop.

Whatever type of family member you are, don’t worry. You’ll get through the day. At least there’s food, right?
