We Egyptians are extremely smart; however, sometimes we use it in the wrong direction and for the wrong causes. When it comes to making excuses, we’re experts as to why we showed up late, or why we didn’t do our assignments, and so on. Although our excuses might sound extremely lame and old we never stop using them. Here are some of the lame excuses Egyptians make:

“El kobry kan zahma awi enhrda”

This sentence always mean our famous and always blocked 6th of October bridge. And this sentence is always valid since this bridge is always blocked. This sentence is also valid for other routes like “el me7war” “el da2ery” or simply say “el sekka kanet wa2fa” and be more vague about it.

Not lying pretelling the truth gif

“Kan fee 3arabeya afla 3alaya”

Yes, in Egypt we park for up to 3 lanes. So, it’s normal to say that another parked car blocked your car inside and it took you a lot of time to find the car’s owner and make him move your car.

“El wasalooni et2akharo”

That’s usually told to parents when you arrive past your curfew. The ones who are supposed to give you a ride stayed longer than you expected, so basically it’s not your fault.

Jennifer Lawrence truth or lie

“El 3agala namet”

This is sooo famous here in Egypt. It’s extremely normal that you get a flat tire once in a week.

“Mala2etsh tawseela”

Coincidently there were no rides today and you took ages to find a taxi or a bus or whatever. Sometimes you end up unfortunately not finding any ride so you don’t go to said work or event.

“Ra7et 3alaya noma”

I over slept! And it’s usually accompanied by a long speech of how you stayed up all night working or studying.

“El ascenseur kan bayez”

So yes, it took you 15 extra minutes taking the stairs to the 5th floor.

“Kan fee 7adsa” or “Kan fee lagna”

And that made the way exceptionally crowded. And yes, that is a bit believable.

“I totally forgot”

I did the assignment but I forgot it at home, or I forgot there was an assignment in the first place.

Homer Simpson lying

“Ebn khal bent 3am mamty dakhal el mostashfa”

Family to us is a huge part of our lives and Egyptians are usually very close their extended family. So you have this as a normal excuse to skip work or any other obligation.

“Maarafsh beyet3emel ezay”

For example, when you’re asked “Why didn’t you do the assignment?” You can always say “I tried but I didn’t know how to.” Or for example if you’re wife asked you to change the diapers for your baby you can say you don’t know how to. It never fails you!
