Many of us consider college years to be the best part of our youth, and for a good reason. It’s a great learning experience where we meet people from all walks of life and go through different situations forcing us to stretch beyond our limits. Here are some of the lessons I believe one learns throughout their college experience.

College Lessons 9

1-You learn that hard work doesn’t always pay off – sometimes you’ll get less than you deserve.

One of the hardest lessons I learned in college. Sometimes you’ll put a lot of effort into something and not get the recognition or grade you deserve. It happens. Don’t let it discourage you. What’s more important is to know and believe in the value of your work.

2-You learn that hard work does pay off, and that more often than not, you do get what you deserve.

Good news: most of the time, you achieve what you worked for. Your effort won’t go unnoticed for long.

3-You learn that not everybody will like you and you won’t like everybody.

We’re all wired differently and sometimes our chemistry doesn’t click well with certain people. That’s okay, as long as you learn to treat everybody with respect and not to deliberately make enemies .

College Lessons

4-You learn that some people are genuinely kind and pure-hearted and that, unfortunately, they are rare.

When you find a friend whose heart is pure, cherish them and don’t let them go.

College Lessons 5

5-You learn that grades aren’t everything.

You are more than a grade on a piece of paper.

College Lessons 6

6-You learn that your opinion of yourself matters more than that of others.

As long as your thoughts and actions align with your principles and what you hold most dear, pay no mind to what others have to say.

College Lessons 2

7-You learn that friendship is a truly precious thing that we all cherish and need.

I cannot stress this enough. Precious friendships matter. We’re social beings; the need for companionship runs in our blood. Embrace it. Become the friend you wish you’d have.

College Lessons 4

8-You learn that education is important, and that cultivating your brain is a good thing.

College Lessons 7

9-You learn that some people will get by through cheating.

They will sometimes do even better than you. I hope you also learn not to follow their example and take the easy way out. Earn your grades, because you’ll have to earn everything else in life.

10-You learn more about who you are and what you like.

College Lesson 8

11-You learn that not everybody has your best interest at heart.

Wish them the best, anyway.

12-You -hopefully- learn to accept others as they are and not want or expect everybody to be like you or agree with you.

13-You learn that not all friends you make in college will remain in your life forever.

It’s a sad fact of life.

14-You learn that you won’t always get your way in life.

And that’s okay.

15-You learn that you have to work hard for what you want.

Things you want don’t come easy.

16-You learn to take responsibility for yourself.

You’re the only person who can make things happen for yourself. If you want something, do something about it. Only you are responsible for yourself and your actions.
