Dramas aren’t just about entertainment anymore, and we can all feel the shift. Since last Ramadan and in several impactful shows before that, there’s been a noticeable change in the types of topics being explored.

It’s clear that the nature of storytelling is evolving from pure entertainment to a more thoughtful approach, tackling real-life issues. While not every drama is meant to solve problems, the success of these thought-provoking shows is definitely paving the way for more.  It’s sparking conversations and encouraging the exploration of more raw, important, and sometimes incredibly sensitive issues we hope to see explored in future dramas.

Here are a few examples:

Child Labor

It feels like it’s been around forever, right? Yet, nothing seems to be changing. Even though the laws are clear, it appears that society still isn’t fully committed to addressing this issue. Whether it’s due to parental pressures for financial reasons or something else, the change hasn’t come. Addressing this in a drama could bring the issue back to the forefront, sparking a conversation and hopefully inspiring change.

Workplace Abuse

Whether verbal or physical, workplace abuse is more prevalent than many realize. Countless women suffer in silence, afraid to speak out due to the fear of losing their jobs. That highlights the urgent need for a louder conversation around these issues, emphasizing that rights should always be protected for everyone.

Body Dysmorphia

Body dysmorphia is a real and alarming mental health disorder. It happens when someone becomes overly fixated on a flaw in their appearance, often something others don’t even notice. This can lead to behaviors like constantly checking the mirror or avoiding social situations altogether. That’s a serious issue that deserves more attention.

Childhood Trauma

Childhood trauma comes in many forms, and it’s one of the hardest psychological challenges to face alone. While it’s touched upon in some dramas, it deserves a full series dedicated to exploring it. Highlighting the struggles and healing process within a story could give a voice to those silently battling these deep scars.

What other important topics do you think deserve to be tackled in dramas?
