It seems that screen writers nowadays are running out of ideas, judging by the amount of blockbusters that are originally based either on comic books or re-polished versions of old movie titles. Don’t get me wrong; I’m a big fan of marvel, DC and Josรฉ Padilhaโ€™s take on Robocop, but whatโ€™s next? I know, video-games (wooohooo!). With so many game developers focusing on story telling and the cinematic moments of the game just as much as the game play, it is only logical that some studio would make a movie about titles such as โ€œUnchartedโ€ and โ€œThe Last of Usโ€. In keeping up with this trend, we present you with a list of 5 great game titles that made it to the big screen.

1) Assassins Creed
Release Date: 21/December/2016
Starring: Michael Fassbender
Assasins Creed

Developed by Ubisoft, Assassins Creed was considered one of the best next-generation games of all times. The most memorable aspect and probably the reason that got it into the big screen is the story telling and the inclusion of real historic characters and incidents *heavy breathing*.

2) Max Payne

Release Date: 17/10/2008
Starring: Mark Wahlberg
Max Payne

A conspiracy involving a multimillion dollar pharmaceutical corporation, a new un-identified drug and a detective who lost his wife and baby daughter. Need I say more?

3) Warcraft
Release Date: 10/6/2016
Starring: Paula Patton
Warcraft

How can you make a movie about a strategy based MMORPG (Google it if youโ€™re a noob)? Apparently, legendary pictures had a recipe of success because I never thought I would enjoy watching Orcs and humans fight endlessly in the pursuit of conquest.

4) Hitman

Release Date: 30/11/2007
Starring: Timothy Olyphant
Hitman

How to take a great game about a relentless silent assassin and turn it into an absolute failure of a movie? Ask Xavier Gens or whoever that guy is. Anyhow, it was kind of entertaining watching a movie adaption of this game but whatever happens, don’t watch the sequel because whoever Aleksander Bach is, he screwed it up more.

5) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Release Date: 15/6/2001
Starring: Angelina Jolie
Lara Croft Tomb Raider

In this cruel world, we have only 3 adventurers to look up to: Indiana Jones, Nathan Drake and Lara Croft. Although this adaptation of the famous 1990’s game was considered to be an utter failure, seeing that it’s the 7th ever movie based on a game title following the likes of โ€œStreet Fighterโ€ and โ€œMortal Kombatโ€, it seems more underrated than anything.
