Are you into Rom-Coms? Are you the kind of person who likes binging light series? Are you someone who loves discovering TV hidden gems? Do you like watching women empowerment-themed content? If the answer is yes to all these questions, then we might have just found the next gem on your watchlist!
“The Bold Type” is a comedy-drama set in “Scarlet” – the fastest-growing yet the most controversial women magazine in New York City, about three 25-year-olds who believe in themselves enough to want to change the world one article/tweet at a time while pushing through life and whatever it throws at them every single day.
It’s basically “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” meets “The Devil Wears Prada” meets “Sex and the City”; all with some light dramatic twists and some political correctness. And if you like any of the mentioned movies, just know this series is for you!
We made you a list of all the reasons why you should hop on “The Bold Type” train if the above description wasn’t enough:
#1 Fierce Fearless Women
The main characters of the show are Jane Sloan – writer/journalist, Kat Edison – activist/social media director, and Sutton Brady – stylist/aspiring designer. The three best friends are important assets to the magazine they previously met and currently work at for very different reasons considering their very different personalities. All three are very likable as TV characters and to each her own charm, personal story, and background.
Their mentor and editor-in-chief, Jacqueline Carlyle is a very important character on the show as she’s, hands down, a great boss and an inspiration to both, her employees and the audience! From the very first episode, she builds a strong emotional connection with the girls (and us as well, to be honest..)
This is NOT another Miranda Priestly if you know what we mean…Or maybe, she is – but less intimidating.
#2 Women Empowerment
As light as the show supposedly is, it discusses very important topics throughout the 5 seasons. From representation to racism, sexual harassment, equality, breast cancer, and more! Mainly revolves around women empowerment but it also raises awareness and tackles some very crucial issues, such as immigration, substance abuse, abortion, gun control in the United States…etc.
Throughout the show, we do follow the day-to-day lives of the three girls at the magazine and outside but each episode usually has a plot that purposely focuses on and highlights several matters. Kudos to the writers for that!
#3 Precious Friendships
You’ll absolutely fall in love with the friendship that ties Jane, Kat, and Sutton. Each is a strong independent woman who’s chasing dreams on her own but together, they’re basically the Powerpuff Girls – just more real! Their friendship is too precious as they’re always there for each other in the bad times before the good and they love each other unconditionally even on their worst days.
#4 Some Romance To Get You Hooked
What’s a light show without some spicy dramatic yet sweet love stories to get you hooked? We promise it’s only a matter of a couple of episodes until you’re addicted and completely through with the whole series in less than a week.
#5 The Side Characters
It’s true that the trio is the core of the show that gets you emotionally attached, however, “The Bold Type” also has some side characters who are just wonderful! Like Oliver, Alex, Richard, Ryan, Sage, Andrew…etc.
