I’m a big fan of international cuisine. I like eating pizzas and burgers as much as anyone else but Egyptian food has a special place in my belly and my heart! This is why I think that a lot of popular international foods are copied from us Egyptians! Here’s the list to prove it:
1- Sushi and Wara2 3enab
You’ve probably heard of this similarity before; it really is basically the same thing! They’re both wrapped with some sort of leaf (vine leaves, seaweed) and stuffed with rice. The difference is, our version tastes much better! I can probably eat a lot more war2 3enab than sushi!
2- Chili and Foul
These images look like they’re one of the same dish but they’re totally different. On the right, we have Mexican Chili with red beans and sauce. On the left, we have our good old Egyptian Foul that we’ve known and enjoyed growing up. But you know what you can’t have for breakfast?! Chili! And you know what you can?! FOUL.
3- Maple Syrup and 3asal 2swed
Maple Syrup is a lovely Canadian sugary sauce that you can add to your pancakes. But essentially, it’s a copy of 3asal 2swed and feteer.
4- Candy Cane and 3asaleya
Candy canes are another sweet treat, basically hard candies shaped like sticks. We have 3asaleya! And we don’t need to color our treats in red and white stripes; people buy them anyway because they taste so good!
5- Granola Bars and Semsemeya
For all you health-nuts who spend a fortune on granola bars, you should know they’re just a Western knockoff of Semsemeya!
6- Pizza and Feteer
The ultimate copy. Pizza is a copy of feteer because it contains all the ingredients of feteer: cheese, veggies, meat/chicken. The difference is, feteer has them stuffed while pizza has them as toppings so it’s more likely to create a mess. If you’re not convinced, let me ask you this: Why is it that a lot of feteer restaurants also make pizza, but no pizza place makes feteer?
With all this damning evidence, we have all the good reasons to believe that our food was copied!
