Body image has always been something that women, everywhere, struggle with. It can lead to eating disorders and a lot of self confidence issues. We are never taught how to truly accept our bodies,, but are left trying to deal with it in our own ways. These are a few tips that can help everyone towards the ultimate goal of body acceptance and love.

1- Look in the mirror

This is one of the things people struggle with the most when they aren’t comfortable in their own skin, but it’s also one you must conquer. Look at yourself and instead of seeing flaws, start picking out what you like about what you see. Maybe you have the cutest nose or legs for days! Pick up on the parts you admire about yourself and appreciate them. Start building yourself up instead of tearing it down.

2- Wear clothes that fit

Sounds simple enough, but can truly make a difference! Wearing clothes that fit you right makes you feel better about your body because it means you’re comfortable and look good.

3- Don’t listen to the haters

Yes, these haters can be as close as your family and even your significant other. Don’t listen to them criticize you. If someone is saying something that makes you feel bad about yourself, first try explaining to them why it’s hurtful, if it persists, block it out. Just don’t listen to people who put you down, you don’t need the negativity.

4- Embrace the names

If people are constantly calling you things like fat or chubby or whatever, just embrace it. These words are only powerful if you give them power. “Sure, I’m fat, what’s it to you” is the type of attitude you need to take. It’s your body and whether you’re “too skinny” or “too big” is your own thing. Other people can say what they want. Love your body and be proud of it.

5- You’re more than your body

Yes, our bodies are how we exist physically and they are important, but we are so much more than that. Know that your body is just the flesh suit you wear in order to function in this physical world but in all honesty, we are all more complex and beautiful than just bones and meat.

6- Don’t compare yourself to others

A given really. We need to understand that we were created to be different. Don’t look at other people and “wish” you had their body. You are beautiful in your uniqueness and that’s what you need to think about, not how your body compares to others.

Loving your body is no easy task. It needs constant work, and there will be ups and downs, but if you work on it you’ll reach a point where you can walk down the streets with the confidence of a lion and not worry about what others think anymore.
