As Egyptians, we’re pretty chill in most situations. But there are times when you have to “sharsha7” to get things done. All Egyptians have a little inner “sharshoo7” that helps them deal with things when times are tough because sometimes sharsha7a is your only defense.

1- In Cairo traffic

Cairo traffic is insufferable. There is nothing you can do to deal with it; it’s a frustrating environment being cooped up in your car for hours on end. Your only release is to sharsha7 to anyone beyksar 3aleyk. And there response is to sharsha7 vehemently back at you too! It’s a never ending cycle.

2- When the delivery is late

If you’ve ever had to wait for delivery, then you’ve probably had the phone call where you speak to the manager and complain to him while using strong language about how the food arriving late is a gross injustice. The only response you’ll get however is “el akl haywesal kaman 5 da2ye2”, which unfortunately, is never the case.

3- When you need to register for classes

This is a necessary evil all students are aware of. Registering for classes is an extremely difficult task that everyone who’s ever been in university has to go through. Because the staff like to make students’ lives even more difficult, they’re less likely to sign you up in a course unless a little sharsha7a is involved. Though not recommended, this method has a 50/50 chance of success so unleashing your inner sharshoo7 is always worth a try as a last resort!

4- When your sibling tries to eat your food!

Food is sacred! This is an inalienable fact. If your sibling touches what’s not his/hers, severe punishments must be exacted! Or at the very least a little sharsha7a to make your point clear: THIS FOOD IS YOURS.

5- If anyone is being rude to you at any point

Rudeness is not something us Egyptians tolerate; we demand respect! And sometimes we’ll even demand that respect with a little rude sharsha7a. It’s contradictory, but only true Egyptians know what I mean!

6-  When you’re FURIOUS!

At the end of the day, sharsha7a can be a simple expression of anger manifested in the form of a few little rude phrases here and there to really show how annoyed you are.

7- If you’re an Egyptian mother!

All Egyptian mothers have mastered the art of sharsha7a. They might dish it out in little doses to their kids every once in a while or to anyone who says anything about their kids. It’s a complicated concept, but it’s one only mothers are aware of.
