July is here and it definitely made an entrance. This heat wave is nothing unexpected during summer, yet still it’s pretty nasty.

While humans can always protect themselves against heat strokes, our furry friends may not manage to do that. That’s why you’ll probably need these tips to help cool down your cat or dog!

Extra Water Bowls

We know that water is a given, but try to spread more bowls all over the house. This way, if your cat is feeling lazy or fatigued by the weather, it could reach out to the nearest bowl and stay hydrated!

Icy Treats

Don’t hesitate to add ice cubes into their water throughout the day. Also, you can try and get them to play around with the ice cubes. The iced treats consumed in water or in pleasure will definitely help them cool down!

Air Conditioning

If that’s an option, of course. Just make sure they don’t stay in an air conditioned room all day, as it may harm their health in the long run.

Damping

Place your cat or dog in the sink or the bathtub (depending on their size really) and try to gently damp their fur with cool water. They’ll thank you for it!

Grooming

If your pet is too furry, a summer grooming session might be in order. Cutting and trimming a few hairs here and there will help them feel them fresh and cool!

Cool Showers

The majority of dogs already love showers. Cats, on the other hand, might cause you some trouble. Worry not though, a quick shower on sizzling hot days might be surprisingly appreciated.

Cool Towels

If you don’t have the time to give them regular showers, a cool towel will do the trick. You don’t have to place it on top of them, just underneath their favorite spot. They’ll find their way to it.

Please don’t forget to extend these cooling techniques to the stray cats or dogs around your building or neighborhood. Not all animals have access to cool homes.
