If you think you know all the tips and tricks to avoid a travel snafu, think again my friend, even the smartest of travellers can easily fall into those mistakes turning the trip into a trap.

1) Overpacking

We all love to dress up while traveling to look good in photos or who knows maybe you will bump into that gorgeous stranger so you need to be ready. I know it’s difficult NOT to pack all your favorite clothes but think about how much weight you will have to carry around if you don’t do this smartly. Additionally, you won’t have enough space for the new stuff you bought, and you will be between two evils, throwing away some stuff or paying lots of money for overweight!

2) Picking a Wrong Travel Companion

If you don’t like solo travel, beware of your choice of companionship. Pick someone who is of the same mindset as you. Meaning if you’re active, pick someone who is also energetic; don’t pick someone who’s lazy and waste your energy trying to encourage them to move the whole trip. Also if you’re adventurous, you don’t need a chicken on board with you.

3) Always Behind the Camera

Many people see the beauty of their surrounding mostly through the lens of their smart phones. We all love to capture the moment by taking pictures; it’s like stealing this moment and tucking it away to relive it later. Only don’t forget to live the moment first, and later make it eternal.

4) Keeping All Your Money In One Place

Remember to never put all your “eggs” in the same basket. Avoid carrying too much cash and store it in various “safe” places, else you might kiss them goodbye.

5) Assuming Your passport Is Valid Until It Expires

You checked the expiration date on your passport to make sure it precedes the date of your flight home, but you forgot that certain countries (China, Russia, and the U.A.E) among others require that passports be valid for six months past the date of your flight home, and 26 European nations require that passports be valid for three months past.

6) Do What Will Make YOU Happy

Some people like to go cheap while traveling and save their money for activities; others adore luxury and five star accomodation. Follow no one’s book and do what will make you happy.

7) Getting Lost

Don’t avoid wandering around out of fear of getting lost. There is nothing called ‘getting lost’ while traveling. You already don’t know all the places you will see, so heading in a wrong direction isn’t so different. Every place you see abroad -even without intention- is a new exploration you’re adding to your encyclopedia.

8) Not buying something you like as soon as you see it

We are all aware that nothing can haunt us like the things we didn’t buy. Here is the scenario we all go through: you see something that you like, you think you’re going to circle back to that shop or see a cheaper, better version somewhere else.

You won’t. Here is a rule to live by: When you see something you like, just buy it and live without regret.
