The oceans are fascinating, aren’t they? So majestic and serene, you can just look at them and tell they’re full of secrets. But did you also know that the oceans are full of plastic? In fact, by 2050, there might just be more plastic than fish in our oceans!
Naturally, we don’t have to say just how bad this plastic pollution will be for the environment and our oceans. But what we can say is that there’s always hope and we can help fight this pollution with adidas.
Celebrating World Oceans Day, adidas decided to continue its mission of ending plastic waste by organizing a Run for The Oceans’ virtual run for 2 weeks straight, starting on May 28 and ending on June 8.

Harnessing the power of sports, adidas’s Run for The Oceans has increased awareness for the threat plastic waste and pollution poses against marine life and the environment, inspiring consumers everywhere to take action against it.
This action came in the form of the aforementioned adidas’ virtual run, where 5 million people ran for the oceans through using adidas’ Runtastic app. Ensuring that adidas X Parley will clean up 500,000lbs of plastic bottles from islands and shores around the world.
adidas in Egypt partnered with Very Nile, removing a total of 4,000 KGs of plastic waste from the Nile River, with approximately 26,250 Egyptian runners participating in this event.
Out of these participants, adidas selected 50 lucky participants to reward them with vouchers (valued at 2K each redeemable on primeblue products) through Cairo Runners’ social media channels, randomly.

This is just the beginning for adidas, though! Even though adidas’ Run for The Oceans collaboration with Parley has seen its greatest participation rate to come for the annual run’s fourth year, adidas hopes to expand this Run for The Oceans to be a lot more inclusive digital and physical community space and aims to have a cumulative participation of 40 million people by the year 2025.
adidas’ admirable efforts to help remove plastic waste from the oceans don’t just stop with the cleaning, though.
Making more than 30 million pairs of shoes with Parley Ocean Plastic, adidas puts plastic waste intercepted on beaches and coastal communities in use and prevents it from polluting the oceans any further.
