Al Ahly Sporting Club, in a momentous announcement, revealed an exclusive two-year education partnership with the Universities of Canada in Egypt. Beginning from the 2023-2024 season, UofCanada will serve as Al Ahly’s supporting sponsor, offering a collection of educational benefits to club members, including full academic scholarships and discounted enrollment in various faculties and majors at the Cairo campuses of Prince Edward Island and Toronto Metropolitan Universities.
This groundbreaking collaboration represents Al Ahly’s vision to extend its role beyond being a sports club, embracing community development through the integration of sports and education. UofCanada, on the other hand, aims to share its international expertise in education, encouraging the growth of Egyptian youth, and enabling their talents in a diverse range of fields.
The Cairo campus of Prince Edward Island University has already earned praise since its inauguration in 2018. UPEI Cairo is particularly acclaimed for its exceptional Sustainable Design Engineering program, focusing on mechatronics and sustainable energy. Moreover, the faculty is the first and only program in Egypt accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), holding equivalency and licensing from the Supreme Council of Universities and the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate.
UPEI offers other sought-after programs such as Mathematics and Computational Sciences with majors in video game development, data analytics, and business analytics, as well as Business Administration with majors in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, and organizational management, along with an MBA program in International Leadership.
Toronto Metropolitan University’s Cairo campus has many offerings with innovative, career-oriented programs in design, creative industries, engineering, and architectural sciences. The university places significant emphasis on hands-on experience and integrating academics with practical application, providing students with the skills needed to thrive in evolving industries.
The agreement was celebrated at a prestigious signing ceremony attended by influential figures, including Captain Mahmoud El-Khatib, President of ASC, who stated “Al Ahly is excited to partner with UofCanada. This collaboration exemplifies our conviction that education and sports should be integrated as part of our commitment to maintain excellence. The agreement will provide grants and discounts to members of Al Ahly club, and we are currently exploring the possibility to include its fans too, given their significant role in shaping the club’s identity”.
With some kind words of Louis Dumas, Ambassador of Canada to Egypt who expressively said “This partnership will add another success story to the record of Canadian investments in higher education in Egypt and enhance the social and athletic relations between Canada and Egypt. This agreement will allow ASC youth to embrace Canadian values and get access to the quality education provided by UofCanada in the Administrative Capital, through esteemed universities such as Prince Edward Island and Toronto Metropolitan”.
