Dear Identity’s Stylist,

I’m a 22 year old girl and I love fashion. My wardrobe is full of all kinds of clothes but I just don’t know how to put them together. It’s very cold these days so I keep worrying about the weather and end up looking like a stuffed teddy. How can I wear layers of clothes that will keep me warm but still look good?

Thanks,

Amina.

Dear Amina,

Many women are afraid to layer their clothes for fear of looking bigger than they actually are. In my opinion to pull off a sleek and flattering layered look is by playing around with textures, fabrics and prints. You can start with a basic lightweight knit something that isn’t too chunky in contrast it should be a little body conscious, add on that bold print cardigan for a print effect so your look isn’t too plain. Now you can start mixing with fabrics, why not add a leather vest or a denim shirt. Add on a trendy cape for a statement or your favourite coat. Final touches should be a cool scarf and stacks of jewellery. If you have the basics down you can go crazy with anything you put together.

Tips:

-Avoid lots of the same fabric, lots of knits will make you look like an eskimo.

-A jacket doesn’t need to go over anything, why not have it under a fur vest for a more dramatic look.

-Accessories go a long way.
