Remembering Omar Khaled

In February 2016, the American University in Cairo lost one of its star American Football players, Omar Khaled. The passing of Omar Khaled was a tragic one. During one of his matches, he was injured and suddenly lost his life.

In his loving memory, the Titans honored his passing in the most beautiful way possible. As it is the beginning of the American Football season by the Egyptian Federation of American Football (EFAF), they are organizing this season in his name. During one of their matches on February 24th, both male and female teams of the Titans came out holding his T-shirt high. Not only that, but to honor his number and nickname, they came up with the hashtag #ForJumbo61 for all their Facebook posts.

In honor of his legacy, #ForJumbo61 is the official hashtag on The AUC Titans’ Instagram at the moment.

Tragic death is not an odd event in AUC, as just recently they had lost another student; Ahmed Abdelaziz. A regular swimmer and member of the robotics club, Ahmed was loved by many as well.

After both terrible tragedies, the Titans are doing their best to play their season for Omar. They are striving to make him proud up there.
