There’s no doubt that Egypt is home to some of the most picturesque and diverse natural landscapes, not just in Africa, but the entire world. There’s a worldwide misconception that Egypt only houses vast deserts and huge stone structures, with limited plant life scattered here and there. However, that is rather untrue. Egypt possesses a rich geography that many people might be unaware of.
Take Gabal Elba, for example; a mountainous area located between Egypt and Sudan that boasts an ecosystem unlike any other in the country. Between 2014 and 2024, a leopard and hyena were discovered in the area, the latter’s documentation being the first of its kind in present day Egypt. Another example of Egypt’s diverse landscape is Crystal Mountain, located in the White Desert near Qasr El Farafra, showcasing many beautiful crystals and hinting at other gems that may still be hidden in the land of the pharaohs.
