Cairo witnessed a great celebration for the inauguration of the first store for heritage handicraft
products, named “Creative Egypt”, at Omar Effendi’s Ahmed Orabi branch in Mohandessin.
The inauguration ceremonies brought together high-profile figures, topped by Prime Minister
Ibrahim Mahlab, and the Ministers of Industry, Trade and SMEs, Social Solidarity, Local
Development, and Investment. Cairo and Giza Governors attended the event, together with
many designers, artisans and media professionals.
“Creative Egypt” is an Industrial Modernization Center (IMC) initiative that is essential for
sustainable development and inclusive business, which aims to revive and preserve Egyptian
heritage handicrafts by reintroducing high quality modernized products to be marketed locally
and globally.
“Creative Egypt” features artistic and creative works, including furniture, carpets, textile, glass,
leather, porcelain, copper, metals, patchwork, mats and other heritage products made by
16,000 professionals from 45 groups representing the Egyptian heritage and handicraft
industries in 17 provinces nationwide.
