Every summer comes with a wave of trends, whether it’s fashion, hot destinations, or, yes, food. Suddenly, everyone is remixing the classics to create something new, unexpected, and sometimes just weird. And when it comes to summer food, ice cream is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
Ice cream is the classic summer treat, always has been and will always be. Sure, new desserts pop up every season, but ice cream still holds a special place. So why are we constantly trying to replace it or dress it up in the strangest ways to keep up with the latest summer trend?
Some of these “creations” just don’t make sense. Mixing in ingredients that are sour, hard to digest, or flat-out unappetizing just for the sake of launching a new flavor? A big fat no. What happened to the simple joy of a chocolate scoop? If we must reinvent it, adding some crushed chocolate bars or caramel swirls is more than enough.
But things really take a turn when we see the bizarre food mashups trending each season. A watermelon-ice cream sandwich? Why? Can’t we enjoy watermelon and ice cream separately, like normal people?
What’s even more surprising is how quickly people rush to try these new flavors, often knowing they probably won’t like them. It’s like the weirder it sounds, the more we feel pressured to join the hype.
Some things are better left untouched. It’s okay to let a summer go by without inventing the next big (and questionable) unexpected creation. Not every F&B brand needs to compete for the title of “most unpredictable” item on the menu.
