For years, we’ve been reading about aphrodisiacs that arguably boost our sex drive before an important night. What we’re about to discuss here are foods that do quite the opposite: decrease libido, testosterone and sperm count. They might disappoint you, leave you hanging or just turn you off completely.  The following is a list of foods to stay away from if you’re planning for a sensual evening:

Sweets

Who doesn’t like and crave sweets from time to time? Well, we hate to be the ones to break this to you, but sweets don’t do your sex life any good. In fact, too much sugar decreases your sex hormones, namely the SHBG protein,  causing acne and infertility not to mention insomnia, irritation and headaches. Ever wondered how something so tasteful could have that many negative side effects? Well, now you know what you are NOT buying next time you go grocery shopping!

Corn Flakes

As innocent kids, many of us had the traditional cereal bowl for breakfast growing up, not realizing how this might affect our adult sex drive later on. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (the actual inventor of the cereal) made it to decrease people’s sex drive to combat masturbation. He believed a bland, sugarless, meatless breakfast would be the key to keeping down the urges. Mind blowing, isn’t it?

Dairy Products

Nowadays, cheese, milk and butter are hardly made of 100% natural ingredients, thus they can harm our bodies if we over consume them. They induce toxins that interfere with the production of testosterone and estrogen and might eventually cause sexual (erectile) dysfunction. The sad thing is that what our parents used to force upon us when we were kids is now considered harmful.

Pop Corn

Trying to set the mood for a romantic movie night? What more could you possibly need other than a sweet film, your better half and, of course, popcorn? Perfect, right?

NOT SO MUCH, as the inner lining of microwave popcorn bags contain perfluoroalkyl acids, such as PFOA or PFOS, known to lower sperm counts.

Coffee

Some people are highly addicted to caffeine and wouldn’t dream of starting off their day before drinking their daily dose of morning coffee. Too much caffeine, however, can cause adrenal fatigue (when your adrenal gland doesn’t produce enough hormones, you can suffer from both decreased sexual desire and energy to perform). If you wish to keep your mojo flowing, try to cut down on caffeine.

Alcohol

You might mistakenly think that wine can arouse you and gear up the mood for a steamy night… NEWSFLASH!! Alcohol acts as depressant that can suppress erectile function.

Fried and Junk Food

What did you think? Of course we were going to ruin that for you too!

The hydrogenated fats decrease testosterone levels and can also cause low quality and abnormal sperm production in men. If you guys plan to take your ladies out before a romantic evening, your cheap options are not an option anymore!

What we consume prior to sexual intercourse can have a detrimental effect on how the evening will go. I know some people might actually choose coffee or alcohol over sex any day but others will do anything to improve their performance in bed.
