What did we used to do before the videogames syndrome started? It seems like such a long time ago, but we actually had a lot of fun before technology took over our lives and made us stop running around looking for active ways to entertain ourselves. Here are 11 games we played relentlessly before the age of video games, iPads and iPhones.

1- Ostoghomaya

Who of us have not played the famous hide and seek? We run after one another restlessly until we reach the safe zone. It was the simple sort of fun.

2- Sayadeen El Samak

The ultimate ball game every kid used to play. If you were good at it and caught the ball often, you could revive one of your dead friends and become everyone’s superhero.

3- Oula

Remember when we used to hangout in our neighborhood’s streets, draw squares with chalk on the ground and start crazily hopping all around? “Oula.. Tania.. Talta..”

4- Kahraba

This was basically hide and seek only with sooo many shouts of “KAHRABAAA” and “SHED EL KOBS” in between.

5- Tamaseel Eskendria

It was us Egyptian kids who originally came up with the Mannequin Challenge apparently. We sang the famous “Tamaseel eskendria.. tamaseel studio masr..” then whoever made the slightest move or cracked the faintest smile lost!

6- El Ouda El Dalma

What family gatherings or friends’ sleepovers haven’t witnessed el ouda el dalma? There was nothing as fun as setting traps, hiding behind the curtains and screaming together in our pitch dark rooms.

7- Bolis w 7aramy

Another hide and seek game we used to play all the time, only giving us law enforcers or outlaws status always made it a hundred times more fun.

8- El Otta el 3amya

Let’s blindfold our friend and keep dodging and poking him till he catches one of us. He is a “blind cat” after all.

9- Black Shoes

It never really mattered if the shoes we were wearing were actually black for us to aim for one another’s feet in between every class.

10- 2ay

Let’s hit one another’s hand as hard as we can until someone finally let’s out an “2ay” of pain. It sounds brutal, but I know you enjoyed it as much as I did.

11- Sabt 7ad

The only game in history where all moves are useless and only one move matters. “GOM3AAA!!!”

We played a lot of hide and seek games and I think it says a lot about who we are as people now. To this day, we’re still constantly hiding and seeking. I wish we could turn back time to the days when these games were the epitome of having a good time!
